Optimism Abounds at 2015 Wireless Infrastructure Show

2skyhawkSkyhawk sent a top-notch team to the 2015 Wireless Infrastructure Show, the industry’s premier event focusing on mobile infrastructure for 4G and beyond. Steve Ebenhack, Chris Hubbard, and Andrew Scarano traveled to Hollywood, Florida for the conference and trade show, which was held April 27-30 at the Diplomat Resort & Spa.

A trademark of the Wireless Infrastructure Show is the high concentration of industry insiders and decision makers. “People are focused on making deals and getting things done. They’re here to get down to business and this is the kind of environment Skyhawk thrives in,” said Ebenhack.

It was Chris Hubbard’s fifth trip to the event and, after landing a solid number of leads, he and the team are already seeing a tremendous response. Not only are the follow up calls being well received, Hubbard says that the contacts they made are showing initiative and reaching out to the Skyhawk team. Hubbard says, “This is a great sign and I can truly say 2015 is our most successful show. There was more optimism than I’ve ever seen with regards to the industry’s outlook.”

He attributes the renewed enthusiasm to expectations from industry veterans who foresee the big carriers releasing work orders that will greatly benefit companies like Skyhawk. This, in addition to a recent move by the FCC to adopt new 3.5 GHz spectrum sharing tools and policies, will help ease the wireless data crunch and open up tremendous possibilities in mobile broadband. Hubbard noted, “DAS systems in particular are about to explode.”

Skyhawk Expands Into Wired Communication Networks

chrisSince 2007, Skyhawk has positioned itself as a leading, high-volume provider of contractors and technicians specializing in the construction, installation, maintenance, upgrading, and troubleshooting or wireless communication towers. The company is pleased to announce that it has expanded its capabilities to include the wired communications industry. Skyhawk now provides the installers, technicians, and electricians with the necessary skills to install and maintain wired networks and wired infrastructure, cellular network equipment, operating centers, as well as effective wi-fi and cellular network integration.

When asked about the expansion, Business Development Manager Matt Forness said, “It’s exciting to lead Skyhawk in a new direction. Because our new sector runs adjacent to the labor we already provide for wireless tower construction and maintenance, I’m confident that my team will conquer the wired communication sector in no time.”

The core strength of Skyhawk has always been our ability to find the best technicians and contractors working in the wireless sector, and we see wired communications as a natural sector in which to grow. New clients will include civil construction companies, carriers, and central office installation contractors (CO construction contractors). Even with the new direction, Skyhawk will continue to follow strict screening guidelines to provide skilled candidates specializing in ground-based cellular network equipment, wired infrastructure, operating centers, and integration.

Newly Proposed Legislation Could Have Huge Impact on Wireless Industry

Last week in Washington D.C., legislation was introduced that could prove to have a huge impact on the wireless industry. On Monday, February 10th, Senators Mark Rudio (R-FL) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) introduced the Wi-Fi Innovation Act to the U.S. Senate, which would free up more broadband spectrum and increase Wi-Fi access across the country.

Sen. Rubio, along with Sen. Booker, said: “The Wi-Fi Innovation Act would bolster innovation, spur economic development, and increase connectivity by providing more spectrum to the public.” The House version of the bill was introduced by Reps. Anna Eshoo (D-CA) and Bob Latta (R-OH).

Trade groups representing the cable, broadcast, and wireless industries all came out with support for the bill.

Following reports of the newly proposed legislation, former FCC Chairman and current PCIA President & CEO Jonathan Adelstein made a televised appearance on the C-SPAN news show The Communicators. The PCIA –The Wireless Infrastructure Association organization is one of the most powerful trade associations in the wireless telecommunications infrastructure industry.

On the show, Mr. Adelstein spoke about the future of building wireless networks, broadband deployment, and the need for new spectrum legislation (like the legislation proposed by Sens. Booker and Rubio). He also made a case for increased investments in wireless infrastructure, pointing out that companies in PCIA-member industries will be making annual investments of $35 billion/year for the next five years, in the United States, in wireless infrastructure.

Adelstein went on to say that independent economists expect these five-year investments to add $1.3 trillion to the domestic GDP of the United States and 1.3 million jobs to the U.S. economy. Ultimately, this depends on policymakers allowing […]
